The person I chose for this assignment is Evelyn Miralles, the 55 year old Vice President of the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is from Caracas, Venezuela, and is now a US Citizen.
Miralles is best known for her contributions at the Virtual Reality Laboratory at NASA , which helped to further human spaceflight by helping to train US Astronauts how to perform spacewalks and operate on spacecraft while in little to no gravity.
Miralles began working at Nasa in 1992.
She was also the co-author of the DOUG Flight Software, which has been used since 2000 and is still used to date.
Miralles was originally born in Venezuela, but performed most of her work for NASA at the NASA Johnson Space Center's VRLab for about 20 years, including the development of DOUG and her help with the STS 61 Mission to repair the Hubble Telescope.
Miralles began her journey to work at NASA because ever since she was young, she had wanted to be an architect, so that she could build something in space.
We can use Miralles' ideas in our everyday life because she is an example of how if you really want something, and you work hard enough, you just might achieve it.
